Cleaning Feces in Anus by Using Water and Stones ~ Hi all readers! In this article, I will explain something that can be used to clean the feces in the anus as well as the law to use it according to Islamic teachings. Maybe now we assume, that the only tool that can be used to clean feces is water because it is the simplest. But it turns out there are other tools that we can use and that is justified in Islamic teachings. Actually, there are many things that we can use for that. But in this article, I will focus on two things; water and stone. How do laws use both and status using both?
As always, before I answer the question above and speak more about cleaning feces in the anus by using water and stones, I will quote two hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad related to this article. The two hadiths that I mean are as follows;
Hadith About Cleaning Feces in Anus by Using Water and Stones
The hadith about cleaning feces in the anus by using water and stones that I mean is as follows:
From Anas radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, “Allah's Messenger sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam once entered the bathroom. I and a young man like me carry a small container made of leather filled with water and (we also carry) spears. He then cleaned the stool with water.” The hadith is narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
From al-Mughirah bin Syu'bah radliyallahu ‘anhu, he said, Allah's Messenger sallallahu alaihi wa sallam once said, "Take a small container made of leather! Beliu then left until he hid then he defecated." The hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
All readers! If we observe the two hadith above, then we know that the most important tool used to clean up the remaining feces in the anus is water. This is because it is something that can most cleanse the feces attached to the anus. But there are other tools that we can use. What is that?
Before I answer the question in the previous paragraph, I would like to say that there are actually a number of things we need to know about the two hadiths above;
- The two hadiths above explain the virtue of serving older people. Above explained, that al-Mughirah bin Syu'bah, Anas, and a young man had served the Prophet Muhammad to fulfill his needs.
- We are encouraged to stay away from people when we want to defecate or urinate.
- Someone may ask others for help to fulfill their needs.
- Water is preferred to be used to clean the remaining feces in the anus rather than the stone. The majority of scholars, in the past, argued that the most important thing was to use both; stones are used first to reduce fecal impurities then water to ensure rectal hygiene. I think here we also understand, that Islam allows a person to use a tool other than water to clean up the remaining feces attached to the anus provided that the equipment used does not cause stools to scatter.
If we observe the explanation in the fourth point, then we know that the second tool that we can use to clean up the remaining feces in the anus is stone. The nature of the stone that can be used is a stone that can absorb the remaining moist stool. In other words, the stone that can be used is dry stone.
After understanding the brief explanation above, we now know that the status of this activity if it is done using stones in Islamic teachings is permissible!
That's a brief explanation about cleaning feces in anus by using water and stones. May be useful! Amen!
