Hi all readers! Are you looking for an explanation of “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?”? If your answer is “Yes”, congratulations! Now you are reading the right article. Why? Because that is what I will explain in this article. As Muslims, we must understand that. That's why I wrote this article. So, you should read it to the end!
Specifically, there are two important things about “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?” which I will explain in this article. Two important things I mean are as follows:
Can Muslim Have Dog in His House?
The first important thing about “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?” what I will explain now is "can Muslim have dog in his house?". I want you to understand that well because there are some Muslims who don't understand it well.
Before I explain the answer to the question, "can Muslim have dog in his house?", firstly, I will quote a hadith that is specifically related to this discussion. The hadith I mean is as follows:
From Ibn Umar radliyallahu anhuma, he said, "I have heard the Messenger of Allah (Prophet Muhammad) sallallahu alayhi wa sallam say, "Whoever keeps a dog, except hunting dogs and dogs for guarding livestock, then his reward is reduced by two Qirath every day." This hadith was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim. In one of the narrations it is described: one Qirath.
All readers! If we understand the hadith, we can conclude that a Muslim is allowed to have a dog at home if it is for an important purpose, such as guarding the house. But having a dog in the house is not allowed if it is without an important purpose. That's the answer.
That's a brief explanation of "can Muslim have dog in his house?". As Muslims, we must understand that.
What to Do If Dog Licks You in Islam?
The second important point about “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?” what I'm going to explain now is a specific answer. I want you to understand that because it is the main topic in this article that some Muslims don't understand very well.
Before I explain the specific answer to the question “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?”, firstly, I will quote a hadith that is specifically related to this discussion. The hadith I mean is as follows:
From Abu Hurairah radiyallahu anhu, he said, "The Messenger of Allah said, "The way to purify your container if it has been licked by a dog is to wash it with water up to seven times. The first wash with dust." This hadith was narrated by Muslim. In another editorial which is also narrated by Muslim there is an additional editorial of the hadith, "Let him throw away the contents." As for the history of at-Tirmidhi, "The last using dust."
All readers! if we understand the hadith above, then we can conclude that if a dog has licked us, then we must wash our bodies that have been licked by a dog up to seven times, one of which is using holy dust. That's the answer.
One other important point about “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?” what I want to say here, that this discussion is also related to the dog's body. In Islamic legal literacy, there are four opinions about the dog's body: is it holy or unclean?
According to the Hanafi school, dogs are not considered unclean animals because dogs are useful as guards and hunters.
According to the Maliki school, dogs are sacred animals. His sacred status applies to any breed of dog; guard dogs, hunting dogs, and dogs with other functions.
According to the Shafi'i and Hanbali schools, dogs are unclean animals.
Now, I want to explain two things related to the hadith above:
- The dog's mouth is unclean.
- Water and food that the dog licks must be discarded.
All readers! That's a brief explanation of “what to do if dog licks you in Islam?” and some important things about it. Do you understand? If you want to ask, please ask!
I think that's enough for this article. Hope it is useful. Amen.
See you again in the next article!
